Known by his stage name Toby Keith, Toby Keith Covel (July 8, 1961 – February 5, 2024) was an American country music singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor.
His first four studio albums, Toby Keith (1993), Boomtown (1994), Blue Moon (1996), and Dream Walkin’ (1997), as well as Greatest Hits Volume One, were released on Mercury Records in the 1990s.
His chart-topping debut album “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” was one of several top ten songs from these albums, all of which received gold or higher certifications.

Toby Keith’S Cancer Diagnosis and Death
Keith, known for hits like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” had been privately battling stomach cancer since the fall of 2021, although he only publicly announced his diagnosis in June 2022.
The country music singer, passed away at the age of 62 on Monday, February 5, after battling cancer. Confirmation of his death came early on February 6 through his social media accounts.
“Toby Keith peacefully passed away last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family,” the message on Toby’s Twitter stated. “He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

When Toby initially revealed his diagnosis to his fans, he said in a statement, “I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation, and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T,” he continued. After disclosing he had cancer, Toby was showered with affection from his fans and fellow country music celebrities. Two days later, he penned a note to thank everyone of them. Toby said,”Thank you for all your love and support, I have the best fans in the world.”
While undergoing treatment, Toby would periodically provide updates on his fight with cancer.
Despite his health concerns, the “Beer For My Horses” singer informed The Oklahoman that he was feeling well during a gala for his annual Toby Keith & Friends golf tournament in June 2023. He said, “Basically, everything is in a real positive trend, You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare.”

What Was the Prognosis That Toby Keith Disclosed?
Keith stated that he will need chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for at least six months after revealing his illness to the public. However, he did not specify the prognosis or stage of his cancer.
Most stomach cancers can be treated if they are discovered early. As to the Mayo Clinic, the majority of stomach cancers are discovered at a later stage, which complicates their treatment.
His tumor had reduced by one-third, according to his June 2023 interview with The Oklahoman, and his blood test showed that his health was improving.
In an interview with “CMT Hot 20 Countdown” in December 2022, he expressed optimism on his prognosis. “It’s pretty debilitating to have to go through all that, but as long as everything stays hunky-dory, then we’ll look at something good in the future,” he stated.
