Boone finished The Fault in Our Stars before he and Lee started work on the movie (2014). Simon Kinberg, the producer of the X-Men movies, was presented with a trilogy idea by the duo, and in May 2015, they formally agreed to work on the project.

Taylor-Joy and Williams’ casting was supposed to have taken place in March 2016, but wasn’t officially confirmed until the rest of the group joined in. With an April 2018 release in mind, filming took place in Boston, Massachusetts, largely at Medfield State Hospital, from July to September 2017.

The movie was subsequently put on hold as retakes were organized and Disney started the acquisition process for the production company 20th Century, Fox. Boone resumed production on the movie when the acquisition was finished, and it was finished in March 2020 without the need for reshoots.

The two perpetrators flee right away to Dallas Winston, the town’s top youth enclave, played by Matt Dillon. He seems to be struggling with some sort of fixation on the contrived Hollywood soundstage look of the 1950s. Characters have a difficult time breathing, moving, and drawing us into their narrative when they are presented in a highly stylized visual manner.

This film lacks spontaneity and much life. The director seems fixated on his ideas about a certain film’s “style.” Edward Hinton
