The Witcher is a Netflix fantasy drama television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
It is based on the same-named book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The Witcher is set on the Continent, a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass that explores the legends of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri. Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan star.
The Witcher Season 3 Release Date Speculation
Season 3 of The Witcher will be released in the summer of 2023.
This was revealed on a new poster released as part of Netflix’s global fan event TUDUM in September 2022, but no specific date has been provided.
The Witcher season two was delayed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic and Cavill’s injury on set, and it arrived nearly two years after the first.
Season 3 filming ended in September 2022, according to executive producer Steve Gaub.
On Instagram, he shared a photo of a skull on a bookcase with the caption, “And that’s a picture wrap on Season 3 of @witchernetflix!!”.
The Witcher Season 3 Plot: What’s It About?
We already knew that the upcoming season would be based on Time of Contempt(opens in new tab), the second novel in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series, thanks to a tweet from the showrunner, Lauren Hissrich.
The official plot summary for The Witcher season 3 on Netflix elaborates on this. “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family from those who threaten to destroy it,” it says.
Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to learn more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they find themselves in a battleground of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery.
They must fight back, putting everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

The Witcher Season 3 Cast
The following cast members have been confirmed for The Witcher season 3.
- Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia
- Freya Allan as Cirilla
- Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg
This will be Cavill’s final season as Geralt before being replaced by Luke Hemsworth in the fourth season.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said of his departure.
Cavill went on to say: “In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf. As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch with gratitude for the time spent as Geralt and excitement to see Liam’s interpretation of this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has so much depth to him; dive in and see what you can find.”
Allan revealed to RadioTimes.com that it is “very difficult to say” how Ciri will evolve in future episodes.
“You sort of find out as you go along,” she explained. “It’s one of those things where you can’t always say what you want. You’re discovering it as you go along, and you’re just doing whatever you want with the script.
The Witcher Season 3 Trailer: is There a Trailer?
There is no trailer for The Witcher Season 3 as of November 2022.
