Even if it’s not exactly what fans of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was hoping for, a sequel to the film is in the works, and we’ve got all the details right here. Tim Burton has spent the better part of two decades presenting the world as he sees it: through the lens of gothic fantasy and horror.

Although he made his directorial debut in 1985 with Pee-Big wee’s Adventure, it wasn’t until 1990 that audiences got a taste of what he was capable of in terms of storytelling.

The 1993 stop-motion animated musical The Nightmare Before Christmas, based on a screenplay by Burton, was directed by Henry Selick and is widely considered one of Burton’s most acclaimed works, despite the fact that Burton had no direct involvement in the production.

The story of The Nightmare Before Christmas centers on Halloween Town’s king, Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon, with Danny Elfman providing his singing voice). One day, he stumbles through a portal to Christmas Town and becomes enthralled by everything Christmas, so he tries to bring this celebration to Halloween Town, but that’s a lot easier said than done.

To help him along the way are Zero, his ghost dog, and Sally, a rag doll played by Catherine O’Hara who becomes Jack’s love interest. The Nightmare Before Christmas was well received by critics and audiences alike, and it has steadily grown a devoted fanbase in the years since its release.

Shea Ernshaw (The Wicked Deep) will pen the untitled sequel, which will bring back Jack Skellington and Sally for another adventure.

Sally, now happily wed to Jack Skellington, will be the protagonist of the sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas. Ernshaw claims that the story takes place shortly after the events in the film and is told from Sally’s point of view.

The story will follow Sally as she learns more about her past and adjusts to her new role as Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town, all while accidentally unleashing a mysterious enemy upon the city. Shea Ernshaw, the author of the young adult novels The Wicked Deep and Winterwood, will be penning the sequel. The new film will be told from the perspective of Sally, the lovely rag doll who fell in love with Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town.

Based on what we know thus far, the lives of the newlyweds will be turned upside down when Sally accidentally lets loose a strange villain in Halloween Town and sets out on a mission to other holiday worlds (including a previously undiscovered one) to save her world and its King. As she travels, she learns more and more about her past.

The author stated in a Disney Q&A, “This new book, written from the point of view of Sally, takes place immediately after the movie concludes. A narrative about Sally and Jack that hasn’t been told yet. Nonetheless, the story is also about Sally coming of age as she assumes the mantle of Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town.

Fans of Sally, Jack, and the rest of Halloween Town will get their much-anticipated second helping here, and there’s also a new cast of dark, odd people I’m hoping readers will enjoy.

The Plot of a Nightmare Before Christmas

Monsters and other supernatural beings with a penchant for Halloween dwell in the fantastical town of Halloween Town. Jack Skellington is the undisputed leader of all Halloween preparations in town, earning the nickname “Pumpkin King.”

But Jack is weary of the same old thing happening every year and wants to shake things up a bit. The next morning, he’s out on a walk in the woods when he stumbles across a cluster of six trees, each with a door labeled with a different holiday.

Jack, impressed by the new holiday, travels to Halloween Town to share his findings with the locals. Following that, Jack thinks that Christmas Town could use a break and declares that Halloween Town will be in charge of Christmas this year.

A Note on the Closing

Jack goes out into the real world to offer his presents, but they frighten the locals. The military finds out about Jack’s wrongdoings, shoots him down, and crashes into a cemetery. Although everyone in Halloween Town believes he is dead, Jack has actually lived.

He is devastated by the Christmas disaster he has caused but finds that he enjoyed the experience overall. This rediscovery of joy in Halloween rekindles his enthusiasm for the holiday. After returning to Halloween Town, Jack sneaks into Oogie’s lair, where he confronts and ultimately defeats the monster by ripping a thread holding his fabric form together, releasing the bugs trapped inside.
