Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror drama television series created by the Duffer Brothers, who also serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.

The first season, produced by Monkey Massacre Productions and Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment, premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016.

Its second, third, and fourth seasons began in October 2017, July 2019, and May and July 2022, respectively.

Stranger Things Season 5 Release Date

Season 5 is set to begin production in May 2023, so we’re probably a year or more away from seeing new content on Netflix.

According to the show’s history, previous seasons were usually released in the summer, so a good guess for Stranger Things season 5 would be in the summer of 2024, from about May to July.

What Will Stranger Things Season 5 Be About? How Will It End?

Stranger Things 5 will most likely follow the Hawkins family on their final adventure as they work together to solve their biggest mystery yet: how to finally defeat Vecna.

The Duffer Brothers previously told TV Line that there will be a time jump, and Collider confirmed that the final season will be primarily set in Hawkins and the Upside Down, rather than Russia, California, and Indiana.

In addition, the brothers have stated in multiple interviews that the primary focus of Season 5 will be to deconstruct the mythology of the Upside Down and finally provide answers to questions raised since Season 1.

The Duffer Brothers have also stated that they are unsure what this final season will look like, but they know how it will end.

“It’s like that lighthouse blinking in the distance… while a lot of Season 5 is actually pretty blurry in our heads, the last 30 minutes are pretty clear,” Ross explained. “So, if we can make the journey enjoyable, I believe we will arrive at a satisfying conclusion. You can’t please everyone, but the hope is that it feels right for this story.”

Stranger Things Season 5 Cast

Season 4 devoted a significant amount of time to introducing new characters such as Eddie, Argyle, Dmitri, Yuri, Vecna, and Victor Creel, to name a few.

All of this contributed to the season’s unusually long runtime, which irritated many viewers.

Fortunately, the Duffers revealed on Netflix Geeked that the fifth season will not include any new players in the war for Hawkins, giving the show more time to focus on the original cast and developing their characters.

It will also provide a break from the show’s habit of introducing likable characters and then quickly killing them off.

How Many Episodes Will Be in Stranger Things Season 5?

A total of eight episodes have been confirmed for the show’s upcoming season, with the first episode titled The Crawl.

The length of each episode is unknown at this time, but the Duffer Brothers revealed on Happy Sad Confused that the series’ final episode will be similar to season 4’s two-and-a-half-hour-long finale.

This will undoubtedly be a big ending, and the Duffers have even stated that it will give “all the characters a proper send-off,” describing it as “Return of the King-ish with eight endings.”
