Even though it’s been years, Sherlock Holmes 3 still doesn’t look like it’s going to start filming or even get a release date. But there have been some changes to the series as a whole.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. said in April 2022 that they wanted to add two possible spin-off TV shows to the “Sherlock Holmes universe.” Each series would be about a new character instead of a well-known one.

The movie was supposed to come out in December 2020, but that date was pushed back, and a new date hasn’t been set yet. So, here’s what we know so far about a possible third Sherlock Holmes movie.

What Will the Plot of Sherlock Holmes 3 Be About?

Downey said of the third movie back in October 2014, “We want it to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty high bar.” So, which of Sherlock’s past bad guys will he be facing this time?

In the first movie, Holmes and Watson fought a magical man named Lord Henry Blackwood (Mark Strong), who wanted to rule the world. In the second movie, Sherlock’s worst enemy, Professor James Moriarty, was introduced (Jared Harris).

As was already said, Harris’s chances of coming back seem slim. But Holmes was supposed to have died in the same accident. Instead, the detective faked his death and sneaked into Watson’s office.

Our money would be on Moriarty coming back, and we hope Harris will play him again. Holmes without Moriarty is like Batman without the Joker – they both need each other to be truly amazing.

Harris doesn’t seem very sure that he will come back, though. In March 2018, he told Digital Spy that the last script he read didn’t have Moriarty in it. We don’t know if this will have changed by the time we finally start filming.

Sherlock Holmes 3 Cast: Who is Returning for Sherlock Holmes 3?

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law have both said they will return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson if there is a third movie, which seems likely since it wouldn’t be the same without their bromance.

We don’t know yet if Kelly Reilly (Watson’s wife Mary), Stephen Fry (Sherlock’s brother Mycroft), or Eddie Marsan (Inspector Lestrade) will come back, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t at least make a cameo.

At the end of A Game of Shadows, Professor James Moriarty, played by Jared Harris so well, seemed to be dead, but we wouldn’t bet against him coming back.

Sherlock Holmes 3 Release Date

The third Sherlock Holmes movie was supposed to come out on December 25, 2020. Warner Bros. This movie was the only one that had to go through the pandemic.

Instead of coming out on its original date, December 25, 2020, the movie was moved up a year because of the ongoing global situation of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and it will now come out at a different time.

Read on to find out when Sherlock Holmes 3 will be out. The film is now set to come out on December 22, 2021, after all the delays.

The sherlock holmes series would not be complete without Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law’s relationship. So, the strange and unusual Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson would be back for Sherlock Holmes 3 as the main characters.
