Is Training Day on Netflix?
A 2001 American crime thriller called Training Day was written by David Ayer and directed by Antoine Fuqua. It is set over a day in the gang-infested areas of Westlake, Echo Park, and South Central Los Angeles and stars Denzel Washington as Alonzo Harris and Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt, two LAPD drug enforcement agents. In supporting roles, it also has Scott Glenn, Cliff Curtis, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Macy Gray. I’m sorry to say, but Netflix does not have Training Day.

Does Training Day Represent a Real-life Story?
The quick response is both yes and no. Although the actual sequence of events depicted in Training Day isn’t directly based on any true occurrences, certain elements are. Denzel Washington’s portrayal of Alonzo Harris, according to The Cinemaholic, is based on Rafael Perez, a real-life filthy officer.
If you recognize that name, here’s why: According to PBS, Perez worked for the Los Angeles Police Department and was implicated in the widely reported Rampart Scandal in the late 1990s.
The incident involved improper activity on the part of the Los Angeles Police Department’s CRASH anti-gang squad (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums). After being caught smuggling cocaine from an evidence room, Perez turned on other CRASH police to receive a lighter punishment.
Much of Perez’s claims would eventually be disputed by investigators, who later labeled him as a “thief” and a “con.” In addition, according to The Cinemaholic, director Antoine Fuqua’s upbringing in the less affluent parts of Pittsburgh contributed significantly to Training Day’s realism.
Fuqua also made a special effort to incorporate actual L.A. gang members as extras throughout the movie. All of this contributes to the film’s sense of authenticity, even though it is a fictitious work and probably not entirely realistic.
Review for “Training Day”
‘Training Day’ is an equal-opportunity depiction of police abuse. Denzel Washington portrays Alonzo Harris, as the toughest and meanest drug officer in the city. He resembles Popeye Doyle and Officer Friendly.
Jake Hoyt is portrayed by Ethan Hawke and has aspirations of joining the elite narc squad. “Training Day” is a rare evil role for Denzel Washington. The football coach from “Remember the Titans” is nowhere to be found. Ayer’s screenplay is clever in the way it sets up hints and then uses them in unexpected ways.
Perhaps it would have been better if it had stayed more real. As conscious as I was of its flaws and excesses, the critic said, “The movie encouraged me to go along for the ride.” If violent movies become rare in these sad days after the terrorist, box office performance might be able to answer that issue.
