Review for The Northman
It tells the story of Amleth (Alexander Skarsgrd), a huge, furious Viking warrior prince who seeks vengeance for a Scandinavian realm that has vanished.
By preparing him and his son for the possibility of bloodshed, his father King Aurvandill (Ethan Hawke), who worships this reality, raises his son.
With “The Northman,” Eggers combines his well-known interests in the fundamental weirdness that runs through old mythology with slicker aesthetics and larger emotions, played out across a grander scale.
The intense movie “The Northman” is full of codas to the unavoidable harsher parts of nature. Jarin Blaschke, who shot the movie, and Louise Ford, who edited it, are responsible for its sharp visual flare.
Amleth is pointed toward a sword by a blind seer who is driven by an insatiable desire for death in Björk’s performance. “The Northman” is a tale of unbridled ambition bent toward immoral goals. The critic claims that the movie succeeds when viewed in isolation, but never as a whole.
