How Morten Tyldum Took the Director’s Seat?
It makes sense that the film’s producers wanted a British director to oversee the production because The Imitation Game is a very British picture (it is set in England, has a largely British cast, and revolves around Britain’s scheme to break the Nazi code).
Producer Teddy Schwarzman said to Collider in a post-release interview that he and his co-producers initially thought a British director would be appropriate, but that changed when Norwegian director Morten Tyldum got in touch with them and expressed a strong desire to take on the project.
In a matter of days, the producers saw Tyldum’s film Headhunters, spoke with him through Skype, and made him an offer for the position, which he accepted. According to Schwarzman, the team was so inspired by his ideas for the movie (and his opinions on Alan Turing) that they decided to take a chance.

Review For “The Imitation Game”
A British team that deciphered the Enigma code used by Nazi Germany is the subject of the World War II thriller The Imitation Game. In it, Benedict Cumberbatch plays a smart but socially uncomfortable mathematician, and the film’s director Graham Moore attempts to create a riddle out of a movie about solving puzzles.
Back in 1928, the storyline switches to a heartbreaking love story as teenage Turing, a viciously persecuted school prodigy, chastely falls in love. The film, which is among the most heartbreakingly depressing, won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
A dramatic version of “The Imitation Game” starring Benedict Cumberbatch follows him as he sets out on a quest to bring Turing to life. He is employed by Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum to offer just enough scientific justification for the anxiety in the expedition.
Although Cumberbatch’s seductive purr is less melodic, he frequently engages in humorous verbal scuffles with his arrogant bosses. Also, he is protected by Mark Strong, who coolly and patiently runs interference for his secret weapon.
Hugh Alexander, a champion of chess played by Matthew Goode, first disagrees with Turing before the latter understand the breadth of his skills. Allen Leech, well known as Branson the Irish chauffeur-turned-terrorist-turned-aristocrat on “Downton Abbey,” who is also the caddish chess champion, is on board as John Cairncross.
A significant figure in the book Noli Me Tangere is Keira Knightley. She is the only woman working on the Enigma puzzle and she treats the audience with kindness and assistance. Additionally significant are Clarke and Turing, who both have to conceal their genuine identities.
Turing observes enviously as Clarke seduces a pick-up artist named Alexander and replies in her fancy accent. A number of “By Jove, I’ve got it” revelations are necessary for the final decipherment of the Enigma code, and readers will probably care about the result. Drugs prevent Turing from concentrating on a crossword puzzle, yet he can access a lot of information with a few keystrokes and a mouse click.
