In the blockbuster film The Dark Knight Rises, Gotham is in an apocalyptic future plagued by urban terrorism and class conflict. After unwillingly leaving Wayne Manor, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) confronts a heartless antagonist who is just as strong as he is.

The movie starts out slowly with an unclear plot and too many new characters, but it eventually builds to an exciting conclusion. With a villain dubbed Bane whose Hannibal Lecter-esque face-muzzle robs him of personality, it is all serious drama. Bane intends to use street battles to replace the local police force, but his alternate strategy—nuclearly destroying the city—works.

In two additional thrilling set pieces, Bane blows up a football stadium and destroys the Stock Market. As Bane and Batman square off in a street battle, it results in an uninteresting fistfight with the city’s bridges blowing up, landing a right hook on Batman’s jaw.

The 2013 Batman film, which includes a range of characters and their antics, is set in Wayne Manor. A brave young police officer, two prospective love interests, Alfred the Butler, Commissioner Gordon, and Lucius Fox are among them. Together with Batman, the film also stars Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), a freelance thief named Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard), and (Benjamin Wayne).
