What Happens in the Secretary’s Final Scene?
At the end of the film, Lee repeatedly assures the audience that she is fine and content and that her marriage allows her to fully express her submissive side.
However, rather than being authentically tumultuous and ambiguous, Lee and Grey’s relationship is too pat and neatly wrapped for us at the conclusion.
The movie closes with a scene of Lee staring directly into the lens. She’s tantalizing us with the appearance that she’s got everything sorted out while daring us to call her bluff.

Review for “Secretary”
Steven Shainberg, the director, has been successful by paying close attention to his characters. For the participants in S/M, the poses are fascinating, but they appear ludicrous to observers. James Spader portrays Mr. Grey, a lawyer whose office appears to have been the product of lengthy discussions.
Lee Holloway, a character played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, suffers from a self-mutilation disorder. Spader is aggressive and fixated (he has a fetish for lining up red markers in his desk drawer).
The character of Peter Grey, played by Jeremy Davies, is honest to the point of being incomprehensible and briefly dates Lee. The movie has a more intricate dynamic rather than making the case that S/M is healthy. Lee gets the impression that she is the center of Mr. Grey’s attention by absorbing so much of it.

Why is Secretary Given an R?
The movie “Secretary” is graded R because it contains sequences of simulated sex, sex acts (some of which are deviant), sexual violence, full female nudity, as well as the sporadic use of harsh sex-related language and crude sexual slang. Duration: 111 minutes.
Is the Movie “Secretary” Worth Seeing?
This is a truly lovely love story. Unfortunately, some viewers may skip this movie due to its strange subject matter (the nature of their relationship), as it truly isn’t much more than a sweet romance about two lonely people who eventually discover each other.
Is Secretary a Ripoff of Fifty Shades of Grey?
Like Fifty Shades, Secretary is inspired by a short tale called “Bad Behavior” by Mary Gaitskill and tells the narrative of Lee Holloway, a young submissive woman who works for the powerful lawyer Grey. However, except for those storyline aspects, the movies are very distinct creatures.
