Why is He Called Rain Man?

Charlie follows Raymond to the facility where he resides, reuniting with a brother he had forgotten about because he was so little (age 2) when Raymond, who was then 18 years old, was put into long-term care.

Charlie was so young at the time that he called Raymond, in true childish fashion, “Rain Man” since that’s how the name Raymond sounded to him.

After this reunion at the hospital for the wrong reasons, Raymond embarks on a six-day cross-country road trip from Cincinnati to Los Angeles in a 1949 Buick.

On this trip, Raymond’s autistic rituals and savant abilities play a variety of roles, some of which are advantages and others disadvantages.

Review for โ€œRain Manโ€

Is a relationship with an autistic person possible? Tom Cruise plays Charlie, a motivated, dissatisfied character who struggles to navigate a crisis in his Los Angeles-based company.

In “Rain Man,” there is a scene that perfectly captures Charlie’s annoyance with Raymond. Because it doesn’t offer sentimental, false answers to those problems, the movie is fascinating. This is not a movie like “Charly,” where miraculous healing occurs.

The story revolves around Charlie’s limits, specifically his inability to truly love the people in his life. Yet I’ve never been able to read the cats’ minds. In “Rain Man,” Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) is in a scenario exactly like that. Raymond, his brother, is “high-level” autistic (Dustin Hoffman).

In a 1949 Buick, the two drive six days from Cincinnati to Los Angeles. After engaging in some rudimentary investigation, Charlie is shocked to learn that it supports an older brother he was unaware he hadโ€”an autistic brother who has been institutionalized for years.

In the movie “Rain Man,” a man whose entire existence is supported and protected by routine is portrayed as being unable to change. Hoffman once again demonstrates how he almost seems to thrive on playing difficulties that are unachievable.

I had a certain amount of love for Raymond, the Hoffman character, by the time “Rain Man” ended. But, I could see how the Cruise character may start to feel the same way since I could relate. I didn’t love him for what he wasn’t or couldn’t be; I loved him for who he was.

Charlie, who starts the movie as a self-centered materialist and aspiring Trump without any experience, is solely responsible for the changes in the story. In the film’s opening scene, Charlie Babbitt is shown haggling in the face of impending doom.

Charlie has learned how to pay attention, listen, and be at least somewhat patient at times by the time the movie is over. Even though acceptance is the only thing Charlie knows, Raymond still has a lot to teach Charlie about it.
