The story also prancingly prances into a survival-of-the-fittest war when the hunted decide to take on the hunters, in addition to the fish-out-of-water antics as the pet-like bear attempts to bond with Mother Nature (such as using the woods as an outhouse and adjusting his tastes to an organic diet).

The most important lesson in the movie is a reminder that Open Season is not a fun time from the perspective of the prey. The fur flying between the creatures and the humans may be the most upsetting part of the movie for young viewers.
