I thought it would be interesting to look back at a very different interpretation of that specific Bible account as Darren Aronofsky’s impending epic Noah is ready to enter theatres. The movie uses a few too many clichés and cliched plot devices.

The only reason to even consider watching this movie is Steve Carell, who is incredibly likable (unlike Jim Carrey in the previous movie) and manages to preserve his dignity throughout the entire ordeal.

God (Morgan Freeman) then appears and warns Evan that a flood is imminent and that he needs to construct an ark. Although his three children are upset about moving to Washington and losing all of their friends, his wife (Lauren Graham) is supportive.

If one can believe that God “magically” causes lions, tigers, and bears to appear in a posh suburb outside of Washington, one might find it more difficult to accept that there are no consequences.

As more animals show up to disrupt Evan’s life or just arrive to assist build the ark, this results in one of the biggest leaps of faith the film demands viewers to take. Bruce Almighty stars Steve Carell and Jim Carrey’s persona. featuring John Denver and George Burns also enjoyed the idea of God interfering with some sap.

The fact that the entire “magic beard” scene was directly ripped from Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause only serves to heighten its melancholy, and the lackluster visual effects do little to support the weak attempts at comedy.

I won’t go into detail about the flood because doing so would involve major plot spoilers, but if you recall that God promised Noah that he wouldn’t flood the world again, you may be able to guess where the filmmakers are going with this.
