Is Coda Based on a Real-life Story?
Although CODA is not based on a genuine story, hearing children born to deaf parents is not unheard of. According to research, more than 90% of the offspring of deaf persons do not experience deafness or other hearing problems.
The movie’s portrayal of the Deaf experience received criticism from Jenna Beacom, a sensitivity reader and the deaf parent of a singer. A writer who is deaf, Sara Novic, highlighted some of the more typical teenage experiences that aren’t frequently observed from a Deaf/CODA perspective.
Hence, even though this story isn’t based on fact, others like it or that contain elements of it are. A discussion about sex that is conducted in American Sign Language is one of the more common teenage moments that Sara Novic, a deaf writer, highlighted.

Are All the Coda Actors Deaf?
Three of them are deaf. The lead role was given to British actress Emilia Jones, who studied sign language for six months. They had to put in a lot of effort because it was a modest production, maintains Heder.
They recognized what a rare opportunity it was, and I took advantage of the dialogue between their characters to explore a topic that fascinates me greatly: the use of language and the conflict that results when people speak different languages.
You need to present that story in a humorous way so that the audience can relate to it and leave the theatre with a new perspective on the deaf community.
