Review For “Break Point”

Break Point, a new behind-the-scenes documentary series on Netflix about the 2022 tennis season, has Serena Williams and Roger Federer as the show’s narrators.

The attempt to convey the drama of tennis matches on TV, which combines energetic game video with frank interviews and a lot of pompous platitudes about how great and thrilling everything is, is only occasionally successful.

The presentation of tennis in BreakPoint, however, does not help as the fundamentals of games and sets are explained twice in the first episode’s five minutes. The advent of BreakPoint coincides with the end of dominant reigns by big names, therefore it also has the dual purpose of introducing a new generation of prospective stars and examining the psychological toll the sport takes on its participants.

Young, attractive athletes that appear to be polite include Maria Sakkari, Ons Jabeur, Taylor Fritz, and Matteo Berrettini. They let the cameras follow them off-court as they display their extraordinary abilities.

A member of the 2022 Australian Open team, Nick Kyrgios, has drawn criticism for his obscene on-court outbursts and for not making the most of his amazing potential.

He has found it difficult to live up to the expectations that followed his shocking victory over Nadal at the age of 19, abandoning his loved ones to participate in events all over the world that are too isolating and taxing for them.

Strong, temperamental, and opinionated, Kyrgios is a young guy who might be challenging to dislike. Break Point tells an inspiring story of overcoming the odds when he and Thanasi Kokkinakis make an improbable run to the men’s doubles in Melbourne.

The feeling of abruptly losing confidence in the middle of a game and being unable to regain it is attempted by several players, with Berrettini coming the closest. The most bravely honest player is Paula Bedosa, who describes her relationship with tennis as a mental health issue.

It can be challenging to determine whether the same factors that put tennis players’ health at risk also make it appealing to a large worldwide audience. The issue with Break Point is that it can’t bring us near enough to the action to see why.
