In January 2020, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said that he had finally started getting ready for Black Adam. For years, people have talked about making a movie about the popular DC Comics villain-turned-antihero, but now the project is finally moving forward.
What should we expect, though, from this new comic book movie? When the successful wrestler-turned-actor starts a new project, there is always a lot of excitement.
This one is especially exciting because it is his first mainstream superhero movie. There is a lot riding on this movie, but when it comes out in theatres this fall, hopefully, all the waiting will finally pay off with something great.
As with all big comic book movies, some details about Black Adam are still being kept secret, but we’ve learned a lot about the project over time.
So, we made this handy guide to keep track of everything we know about the upcoming superhero movie, like when it will come out (it will be one of the big fall movies in 2022), who will be in it, and what the future plans are for the property.
What is the Story of Black Adam?
So far, all we know about the movie is that it is a spin-off of the 2019 movie Shazam! and will follow the anti-hero Black Adam as he breaks out of purgatory 5,000 years after being locked up.
Black Adam’s powers came from the wizards of the Rock of Eternity, just like Shazam’s (Billy Baston) did. This gives us an idea of what to expect from the new character, even though we don’t know the exact plot yet.

DC Comics says that Black Adam was sent away because he “allowed his power to corrupt his ideals and wants.” He is now “a common enemy of Earth’s heroes,” but he thinks he is the right person to lead humanity and that everything he does is for the best.
Who’s in the Cast of Black Adam?
Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan will all play classic DC characters in Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson will also be in the movie. Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu are also in the cast, but their roles haven’t been revealed yet.
Black Adam Will Be Portrayed as an Antihero, Not as a Supervillain
Over the years, Black Adam has gone from being one of DC Comics’ supervillains to one of its strongest antiheroes. When he comes to the big screen on October 21, he will be in the latter group, not the former.
Oh, don’t worry. Dwayne Johnson’s muscle-bound character will change the order of the DC Universe (at least in terms of powerful characters), but he won’t be all that bad in his intentions and actions. And since Johnson brought Black Adam to life, the antihero route seems like the best one to take.

When Will Black Adam Be Released?
According to collider.com The first episode of Black Adam is set to air in the United States on October 21, 2022. The movie was supposed to come out on December 22, 2021, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, that date had to be changed. The movie’s release date was pushed back to July 29, 2022, but the current date was chosen in the end.
Is There an Official Trailer?
Yes, there is now a full trailer for Black Adam, and it features The Rock in action! It shows how the main character died and came back to life, and it follows him 5,000 years after he got his powers and broke out of prison.
