Barry is an American dark comedy crime drama television series that premiered on HBO on March 25, 2018.
It was created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader.
Hader plays Barry Berkman, a Cleveland hitman who travels to Los Angeles to kill someone but ends up enrolling in an acting class taught by Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), where he meets aspiring actress Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) and begins to question his life path as he deals with his criminal associates such as Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root) and NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan).
On March 31, 2019, the second season premiered. HBO renewed the series for a third season in April 2019, which will premiere on April 24, 2022.
The series was renewed for a fourth season of eight episodes in May 2022.
Barry Season 4 Plot: What is It About?
The plot of Barry Season 4 will pick up where the Season 3 finale left off, with Gene tricking Barry into attempting to murder Jim Moss (Robert Ray Wisdom) – but it was all a ruse, and the episode ended with Barry’s shocking arrest.
It would have been a fitting end for the character, but Hader wanted to continue the story – and it could be the start of the end.
“Well dying, the story’s over, and I thought there was more story. “A guy can only get away with this for so long,” he told Vulture.
“I know how I feel sometimes while watching shows: ‘They’re trying to keep the thing going, and now it’s getting ridiculous to keep the thing going.’ As a result, I believe he would be apprehended.
“This isn’t Jason Bourne or Walter White. He isn’t a genius. He’s a complete moron. And it made sense, the idea of Gene Cousineau wanting justice for Janice and eventually getting it, but he has to go through a transformation himself to get it.”
Season 3 was decidedly darker than the previous two, with Sally committing murder for the first time and NoHo Hank being forced to use a machine gun on his captors in order to escape and free Cristobal.
“Well, certain things I can’t say because it sets up stuff in Season 4, but I can say where Sally and NoHo Hank end up this season and giving them Barry’s disease like they murder people,” Hader added to The Wrap.
“When we were looking at Season 4, we were thinking, ‘Oh, that could be interesting to just have their characters be different.'”
Barry Season 4 Cast: Who’s in It?
We can expect the following stars to return in the Barry Season 4 cast:
- Bill Hader as Barry Berkman
- Sarah Goldberg as Sally Reed
- Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau
- Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches
- Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank
- Michael Irby as Cristobal Sifuentes
- D’Arcy Carden as Natalie Greer
- James Hiroyuki Liao as Albert Nguyen
“I don’t know where it ends, but we just take it scene by scene,” Hader told The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’ve been talking about Season 4 now for a long time, and it’s morphed and changed so much that it does feel like this is where we just take it to step by step. And then, if one of those steps ends with the words ‘The End,’ you’re like, ‘I think we’ll call it a day now.'”
Winkler also told Variety that he hopes the Barry team “never tries to stretch” it past what is necessary for the story. “They’re not going to push it,” he explained.
Barry Season 4 Release Date Speculation
We don’t know when Barry season 4 will be released, but HBO representatives stated in July 2022 that the show would premiere in time for the Emmys in 2023. That means it’ll most likely air before May 2023.
The first two seasons aired in March 2018 and March 2019, respectively, with the third season not airing until April 2022.
Given that Hader began writing for the TV show before the third season was even filmed, it appears that Spring 2023 will be the natural home for Barry season four.
The show will return to HBO Max in the United States, while previous seasons have aired on Sky and NOW in the United Kingdom in tandem with the American release.
