But the story didn’t come to life until 2013 when the author started self-publishing it as a web novel series on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website.

The web novel, which concluded in March 2017, has a total of 677 chapters across its five volumes. TO Books, the publisher started turning the web novel into a light novel series in January 2015.

The web novel was heavily reworked for the light novel adaption, with new scenes included and chapter orders changed. Alterations in the narrative viewpoint have also been made.

The first four parts, totaling 460 chapters, were turned into 21 light novel volumes, the last of which came out on December 10, 2019.

Part 5 of the web book adaptation, for which work on Volume 22 began on March 10, 2020, has 217 more chapters.
